Hoda Kotb left her hosting duties on Today earlier this year. However, news has come out about a possible return to the talk show. Members of the Today crew shared the news, complete with some details on what to expect.
A Few Of Hoda Kotb’s Former Co-Stars Teased What To Expect
Kotb first joined NBC News in April 1998, working as a correspondent for Dateline NBC.In 2007, she started hosting Today‘s fourth-hour broadcast, working alongside Kathie Lee Gifford and Jenna Bush Hager. In 2018, she also became a co-anchor alongside Savannah Guthrie.
Towards the end of 2024, however, Kotb announced that she would be leaving Today, though she noted she would remain with NBC in some unspecified role. After leaving the show on January 10, 2025, Craig Melvin would take on her role as a co-anchor, with Jenna Bush Hager sitting alongside a rotating number of guest hosts.
On September 5, however, Guthrie announced big news: Kotb would be returning to the show for a post-exit appearance. Teasing it would be an emotional moment, she shared, “We have some good news to share. Hoda will be joining us next week, and she’s gonna share a really heartwarming story.”
Melvin also shared some details about the project. He added, “She’s gonna introduce us to a remarkable phys-ed teacher from right here in New York, going the extra mile for his elementary school.”
Kotb Has Made A Few Previous Returns To Today Since Her January 10th Exit
According to Melvin, school would be in session, in a manner of speaking, during the show. He shared, “In fact, Hoda is actually going to bring him with her, along with some of his students, for quite the unforgettable gym class just out on the Plaza.”
Since her January exit from the show, Kotb has occasionally made appearances in some form on the show, something that Guthrie joked about. She noted, “Should we all just make the joke we always make? Longest vacation ever. It’s coming to an end. We’ll see Hoda next week. Looking forward [to it].”
That said, there is something that will set this return apart from Kotb’s previous post-exit appearances. Beforehand, Kotb mostly appeared in video messages, packages, and promotions for her personal projects on the show.
For example, Kotb appeared back in March, announcing her book, Jump and Find Joy, in a video message. This upcoming appearance, however, will mark her first return to Today for an assignment.
