According to Mykelti, Leon is unlikely to participate in season 21 of “Sister Wives.” As she revealed on The Sarah Fraser Show, “I don’t think you’ll see Leon do [‘Sister Wives’].”
Season 20 of “Sister Wives” wrapped up in January, primarily focusing on Kody Brown’s attempts to reconnect with Christine Brown Woolley, Janelle Brown, and Meri Brown in their respective hometowns. The season was filled with emotional apologies, difficult conversations, and attempts at finding closure after Kody’s plural marriages dissolved.
With the possibility of a season 21 on the horizon, the question of which Brown family members will continue filming has become a hot topic. Leon, Meri Brown’s only child, has been noticeably absent from “Sister Wives” in recent years. Besides a brief appearance in season 19 at Garrison Brown’s funeral, Leon has largely remained off-camera.
Leon publicly came out as transgender in 2022 and has since chosen to maintain a more private life.
Why a “Sister Wives” Return is Unlikely for Leon
Mykelti’s comments provide the most explicit indication yet regarding Leon’s feelings about returning to “Sister Wives.” She believes the show’s history and overall tone play a significant role in Leon’s decision.
“I think that if Leon was going to [film] it would have to be a completely separate show,” Mykelti explained. “There’s just so much, like, negative angst and hard crap around ‘Sister Wives.’ But if there was, like, a spinoff version of it, like, ‘The Brown Kids,’ hindsight or after the fact or whatever, for sure I think Leon would come back. But Leon wouldn’t come back on ‘Sister Wives.’”
“Sister Wives” has documented over a decade of the Brown family’s life, capturing marriages, separations, relocations, and conflicts among both the adults and their children. The recent seasons have heavily focused on the rifts between Kody Brown and his former wives, as well as the evolving relationships among the siblings.
Mykelti hinted that if “Sister Wives” is renewed, viewers might still see some of the Brown children. “You might see me here and there. You might see Ysabel,” she said. She also mentioned that Madison Brown Brush, Janelle Brown’s daughter, could continue to appear since she lives next door to her mother.
The participation of Kody Brown’s adult children has varied over the years. In earlier seasons of “Sister Wives,” many of the children were central to storylines involving education, relationships, and significant life transitions. However, as they’ve grown older, several have opted to step back from regular filming.
Kody Brown has a total of 18 children from his four marriages. With Meri Brown, he has Leon. With Janelle Brown, he has Logan Brown, Madison Brown Brush, Hunter Brown, the late Garrison Brown, Gabriel Brown, and Savannah Brown. With Christine Brown Woolley, he shares Aspyn Brown, Mykelti Brown, Paedon Brown, Gwendlyn Brown, Ysabel Brown, and Truely Brown. After legally marrying Robyn Brown, Kody adopted her three children from a previous marriage — Dayton Brown, Aurora Brown, and Breanna Brown — and they later welcomed Solomon Brown and Ariella Brown.
“Sister Wives” has also shown the tension that arose following the separations, with some siblings acknowledging strained relationships. Leon’s limited involvement reflects a larger trend where adult children decide their own level of participation in the show.
The idea of a separate series centered on the next generation of Browns has been met with enthusiasm. One commenter wrote, “I vote spin off !” Another added, “There should be a spin off like with 19 kids and counting.” A viewer also noted, “Would love to see a spin off with more of the children. Not interested in Kody or Robyn. I love Janelle, Christine and Meri. Christines husband is cool also.”
Mykelti’s comments suggest that a spinoff could provide a different environment from “Sister Wives,” one that Leon might consider.
For now, “Sister Wives” is still focused on the aftermath of the family’s restructuring. Based on Mykelti Brown’s statements, it seems Leon Brown is unlikely to return for season 21 under the current format of the show.
