Christine Brown is cousins with her ex-husband Kody Brown, she revealed in a new episode of Sister Wives.
On the Sunday, Dec. 28 episode of the long-running TLC show, Christine, 54, revealed that she and her former husband, 56, are indeed “third cousins, once removed.” Christine detailed the family dynamic in a confessional with her current husband, David Woolley, when she brought up how plural weddings are “way too weird.”
“I knew growing up that I would have to marry a convert because I was literally related to everybody in the church,” she said. “I did marry a convert, but I was still related to him, too.”After David reacted in disbelief, Christine confirmed, “Yeah, I’m related to Kody.”

“Third cousins, once removed is fully legal,” Christine said. “Fully. Polygamy’s not legal, but [I’m] third cousins, once removed from Kody.”
Janelle Brown, another ex-wife of Kody’s, added that there was always a “joke” that Kody and Christine were cousins, but their relationship was so “distant” that it was “ridiculous.”
“I think in the polygamous families, this kind of stuff happens all the time,” Janelle, 56, said. “It wasn’t the kind of relationship where you saw each other at a family reunion. It was a very distant relationship but they would always joke about being cousins. It’s a small community.”
Christine and Kody wed via a “spiritual marriage” in 1994 (when he was already married to first wife Meri Brown and second wife Janelle) before splitting in November 2021. Kody is now married to Robyn Brown, while Christine wed Woolley in October 2023.
Christine and Kody’s distant relationship isn’t the only familial tie in the former Brown household. During the Nov. 30 episode of Sister Wives, Janelle shared how Kody’s father married her mother after they got together.
While having a meal with pals Alice, Kristina and Angela, Janelle said that she was “originally introduced to the idea” of polygamy in high school before she and Kody spiritually wed in 1993.
“She ended up marrying Kody’s dad and they actually got married three months before we did,” Janelle said of Kody’s father, Winn Brown. “When they decided to get married, I was like, ‘That’s gonna be a little hard to explain, but alright.’”
