On General Hospital, Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna) and Elizabeth Webber (Rebecca Herbst) have had little interaction over the years — while their storylines have occasionally overlapped, it’s never been in meaningful ways. Lately, though, the two have been sharing more one-on-one scenes — and every fan knows that this rarely happens without the show using those scenes as a chemistry test. Here’s why I think it would be smart for GH to move forward with a potential romantic pairing for these love-stared characters.
Looking For Love
Both Liz and Dante are in the market for a love story. Dante has been single since the heartbreaking murder of his fiancée, Sam McCall (Kelly Monaco), at the hands of Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober) back in October 2024 — an eternity in soap time. As for Elizabeth, she’s been floundering romantically pretty much since 2021, when her husband, Franco Baldwin (Roger Howarth), was brutally gunned down by Peter August (Wes Ramsey). Her follow-up pairing with Hamilton Finn (Michael Easton) was, politely put, a dud; even viewers who liked them together have to admit that the prevailing viewer sentiment was that “Fiz” couldn’t end fast enough. Liz subsequently rekindled her relationship with first love Lucky Spencer (Jonathan Jackson), but that was more or less over before it began when she turned down his marriage proposal and he flew the Port Charles coop in June 2025.
While characters don’t have to be in a romance to be important to the canvas, it certainly doesn’t hurt — especially when those characters have been in popular pairings before. Dante was in a long-running, popular romance with Lulu Spencer (first Julie Marie Berman, then Emme Rylan), but since she emerged from her four-year coma in 2024 (in the form of Alexa Havins), their dynamic has been a chaste one. Without a love interest, his biggest storyline has been the discovery that Gio Palmieri (Giovanni Mazza) is his secret son by Brook Lynn Quartermaine (Amanda Setton), while the perpetually high crime rate in Port Charles keeps him busy at the PCPD.
For her part, Liz has had many memorable love stories over the years, from Lucky to Jason (Steve Burton) to Ric (Rick Hearst) to Nikolas (Tyler Christopher) to Franco (arguably the most divisive of the bunch). Liz’s career as a nurse keeps her connected to the drama of the hospital, but she’s basically been starving for a story of her own. For most of the last year, she’s had little to do but serve as a talk-to for characters with far more dramatic storylines, from Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) to Portia (Brook Kerr) to Lucas (Van Hansis).
The More The Merrier
The exception to Liz’s story drought has been her slowly coming around to the idea of pursuing another go-round with Ric, her two-time ex-husband, who has made no secret of the torch he still carries for her. They even shared a kiss on Valentine’s Day during their fun date at the hatchet range, but things haven’t progressed between them far enough that another guy couldn’t plausibly catch her eye — and besides, there’s some built-in soapy drama to be had if Liz found herself caught between Dante and Ric, given that they are moral opposites (generally speaking) and also related (Dante is Ric’s nephew). For Liz fans tired of seeing her on the sidelines, it would be a gift if GH’s writers made her the center of a love triangle for the first time in years.
Beyond just Ric, the various characters connecting Liz and Dante could lend a lot of human drama and texture to their romance. Liz has a lot of history with Lulu, his ex-wife and her former sister-in-law — and not all of it is good. Currently, Lulu’s heart is being pulled solidly in Nathan West’s (Ryan Paevey) direction, but since she has been back in action post-coma, she hasn’t had to contend with seeing Dante with another woman. If he started something with Liz, might that stir up unresolved feelings for Lulu? Liz has always been close with Lucky and Lulu’s mom, Laura Collins (Genie Francis), but could Laura support Liz getting together with her ex-son-in-law? How would Jason react to his former lover, with whom he shares a child, hooking up with Sonny’s (Maurice Benard) firstborn and the man Sam was engaged to at the time of her death? Ditto Molly Lansing-Davis (Kristen Vaganos), Ric’s daughter and a major Ric/Liz cheerleader, who also happens to be Dante’s cousin, as well as Sam’s sister. Even Liz dealing with Dante’s well-meaning but overbearing mother, Olivia, being too into the idea of Dante and Liz’s relationship could be comedy gold!
But forget third parties for a moment. Honestly, just looking at who Dante and Liz are as people, I could see them falling in love. They’re both bighearted and loyal, dedicated to their families, and in noble professions (but have been known to bend the rules and/or the law for a good cause). They’ve both suffered great losses and haven’t had much to smile about lately, which makes the light and playful energy in their scenes feel really refreshing — and really promising. Dante and Liz deserve to be happy. Why not with each other? If GH is chemistry-testing them, I say they’ve passed with flying colors.
