EXCLUSIVE: This news should help soothe General Hospital fans who are still smarting over the reveal that Jonathan Jackson is leaving Port Charles.
Deadline has learned that Kelly Thiebaud, who played Dr. Britt Westbourne, is returning to the ABC sudser in July.
“It is good to be home,” says Thiebaud.
“I am thrilled to have Kelly back on our show,” adds GH Executive Producer Frank Valentini. “We have some great twists and turns planned for her character.”
That’s the rub, though: it’s not clear if she will return as Britt or a different character. The last time fans saw her as Britt, she was attacked by a serial killer and died from his poisonous hook. (Ouch). At the time of her death, Britt was also exhibiting symptoms of Huntington’s disease. (Double ouch).
Thiebaud first joined GH in 2012. She went on recurring status a few years later and has come and gone from the sudser several times. Her last appearance was in 2023, a year after she won her first Daytime Emmy for playing Britt.
Away from Port Charles, Thiebaud played Eva Vasquez on ABC’s Station 19 for two seasons.
On Thursday, it was revealed that Jackson, who plays Lucky Spencer, is leaving the ABC soap. He rejoined the show last summer after a nearly 10-year hiatus.
“We were so glad Jonathan was able to reprise the role of Lucky, even if was for a limited time,” Valentini said in a statement. “We wish him nothing but the best, and the door is always open for Jonathan to return.”
General Hospital (GH) spoilers suggest that viewers were pretty bummed to learn about the recent news of Jonathan Jackson’s departure as Lucky Spencer, which is scheduled to take place the week of June 9-13.
With that said, Deadline just dropped a massive silver lining, reporting that fan favorite, actress Kelly Thiebaud, will be making a comeback to the canvas, as of this July.
GH audiences adored Thiebaud as Dr. Britt Westbourne, affectionately referred to as ‘The Britch”, who entered the canvas in 2012. The actress played the role, on and off, until the character’s untimely demise in 2023.
Viewers may recall that Britt passed away at the hands of The Hook, who was ultimately revealed to be Heather Webber (Alley Mills).
She went out as a hero, protecting a teenage Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy) from The Hook’s attack; however, she ended up in a fatal situation herself, as such.
As of this writing, there’s no information as to whether or not Thiebaud will reprise her Britt Westbourne role or enter storylines as a brand-new character.
Britt exited in a pretty final way; however, this is the land of soaps, where passing away means nothing.
After all, if GH writers found a crafty way to bring Jake Webber (Hudson West) back, after he met his demise and donated a major organ to Josslyn, then they can find a way to bring Britt back, too, right?
Fans would happily eat up whatever storyline the show dished out just to have Britt back!
After all, GH viewers will want to see some of that old magic between Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) and Britt!
Unfortunately, Jason exited the canvas in 2021, just as things were getting hot and heavy between the two.
Everyone thought he had passed away during the tunnel collapse, but in typical soapy fashion, Jason made his way back to PC in March 2024.
If Britt returns, there would be a ton of unresolved feelings (and chemistry) between the two. Only time will tell.
During Thiebaud’s run with the ABC soap, she snagged two consecutive Daytime Emmy nominations (one in 2022 and one in 2023), in the Outstanding Supporting Actress category, winning the award in 2022.
Thiebaud commented on her GH comeback by saying, “It is good to be home.” It sure is!
General Hospital spoilers suggest that the countdown to Kelly Thiebaud’s return starts now, as fans will be more than eager to see if Britt Westbourne comes back, or if the daytime drama will go another route with the talented actress.
