Tragically, General Hospital has said goodbye to a few of the actors that helped bring the stories of Port Charles to life over the past few months. This includes legendary actress and soap star Leslie Charleson. Since then, fans have been asking for tributes for these stars.
General Hospital Star Leslie Charleson Passed Away Earlier This Year At The Age Of 79
Charleson started her career in soaps. One of her first acting roles was in the short-lived series, A Flame in the Wind in 1964. She then joined the cast of As the World Turns in 1966.
However, Charleson arguably got cast in her most prolific role, Monica Quartermaine, on General Hospital in 1977. In time, she became one of the soap’s longest-serving cast members.
Earlier this year, Charleson passed away on January 12, 2025. She was 79 at the time of her passing. As previously reported, the actress’ cause of death had previously been listed as sequelae of blunt head trauma, which was caused by an earlier injury.
The soap would say farewell to another actress within a few months. Back on March 5, Denise Alexander passed away at the age of 85. She was known for playing Lesley Webber on General Hospital, first playing the character in the 1970s. Prior to this, she appeared on Days of Our Lives.
Fans Suspect That A Send-Off For Monica Might Already Be In The Works
At this time, the soap hasn’t acknowledged the characters’ fates since the actresses passed away. That said, Monica is still mentioned on the soap, presumably resting in bed. Notably, she was the reason Tracy was keeping Wiley and Amelia in the Q mansion. She has also been mentioned in other stories involving the home.
Similarly, there hasn’t been a mention of Lesley’s death. That said, the character had already been off-screen at the time of the actress’ passing, so her absence is easier to explain.
Despite this, as noted by Soap Hub, many fans feel that the soap should allow the characters to die. After all, retiring the characters would be seen as paying tribute to the actresses who brought them to life.
The soap might be planning to give Monica a send-off in the near future. The publication noted that Erika Slezak of Days of Our Lives fame is set to join the soap as the character’s sister.
As previously reported, there had already been speculation that her character would fill Monica’s role on the soap. Because of this, fans suspect General Hospital is setting up Monica’s death in an upcoming storyline.
Meanwhile, Lesley’s death could be confirmed later. While the character was off-screen at the time of the actress’ death, the character’s passing could still impact other characters, with her connections to various prominent families in Port Charles.
