‘General Hospital’ Fan Favorite Says Presidential Run Is ‘Inevitable’

General Hospital is a long-running series that has launched the careers of many actors. That said, some actors still have other dreams to pursue, especially when their time on the soap comes to an end. Recently, one fan-favorite series alum talked about their career plans, even weighing in on a presidential run.

In True Soap Tradition, General Hospital‘s Actors Sometimes Play Multiple Roles, Even Off The Show

General Hospital is a long-running soap opera, first premiering in 1963. The series has also seen a few spin-offs over the years, including the supernaturally themed Port Charles, which is named after the series’ fictitious New York setting.

Over the years, many actors have become part of the long-running soap. As with many soaps, a few actors have even played multiple parts, such as actors playing their own twin.

One figure who has become a fan-favorite for General Hospital viewers is Stephen A. Smith. A longtime fan of the show, he made his acting debut on the soap in 2007, playing a reporter. He later took on the role of Brick, starting in 2016, a character who is intertwined with mobster Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard), quickly becoming a fan favorite.

Outside of acting, however, Stephen A. Smith is arguably better known for his work as a television personality and sports analyst. Some of his roles include serving as ESPN’s NBA analyst for SportsCenter and NBA Countdown. He also hosted ESPN Radio’s The Stephen A. Smith Show.

In recent years, however, fans have wondered if Smith would be interested in another venue: politics. Back in February, Smith shared on his podcast that he would entertain the idea of a presidential campaign. This was after he was listed in a Democratic primary nationwide poll.

Back in April, Smith appeared on ABC News’ This Week, where he was interviewed by Jonathan Karl. At the time, when asked about his presidential ambitions, Smith replied that his presidential run seemed “inevitable” due to receiving a lot of support.

Smith shared, “I have no choice. I’ve had folks that got a lot of money, billionaires, and others that have talked to me about exploratory committees and things of that nature.”

At the time, an insider spoke with The Globe, noting, “These are the kind of shows Stephen would never be found on just a year ago. But he’s in full-blown campaign mode already. This whole thing started as a way to pump up his image, but now Stephen has bought into his own self-generated hype and actually sees himself sitting in the Oval Office.”
