General Hospital saw Drew Cain Quartermaine‘s (Cameron Mathison) life go from fantastic to pretty awful with just one little syringe to his neck. Thanks to Willow Tait (Katelyn MacMullen), he had a massive stroke. But this could be the start of a brand new chapter for Drew, an opportunity for him to change for the better. And it’s long overdue.
We’re going to talk about how Willow’s latest attack on Drew might finally get him on a path to redemption, and it all starts now.
Willow Tait’s Betrayal and Drew Cain Quartermaine’s General Hospital Delusion
So, everything shifted dramatically for Willow’s awful husband after she was acquitted in court. Drew thought at that moment he was on top of the world. He’d have Willow at home with him. Her kids aren’t around, so he has her all to himself. Drew thinks Michael Corinthos (Rory Gibson) will go to prison.
All that is because Drew’s got no idea that Willow is guilty and put two bullets in his back. Drew was talking about their future once they got back to the house. He was making promises about getting her kids back, and we all know those aren’t worth anything.
He was talking about how great their lives would be. But Willow is now very aware that he ruined her life. And so she jammed a syringe in Drew’s neck and caused a massive stroke. Then Willow played the worried little wifey and she called 911.
Up at General Hospital, in front of Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros) and Kai Taylor (Jens Austin Astrup) and all the doctors, Willow put on this big show about how terrified she was for Drew. She was in tears, her lip quivering dramatically after Lucas Jones (Van Hansis) said that Drew will likely never recover.

Locked-In Syndrome: Willow Tait Becomes Drew Cain Quartermaine’s Prison Warden on GH
Lucas said that Drew has locked-in syndrome, which we’ve seen on GH before. So, Willow’s horrible hubby is awake and he is aware and he can feel things, but he can’t move and he can’t talk. He can’t communicate. Drew is a prisoner in his own body, and Willow is his prison warden.
Drew is completely at Willow’s mercy and is going to be relying solely on her. Whatever she does to him, no matter how cruel or psychotic, Drew won’t be able to tell anybody or do anything to stop her. Now, I don’t know if Willow’s goal was to kill Drew, since she meant to kill him when she shot him.
Or maybe she just wanted to cause a stroke, knowing it would incapacitate him and he’d be vulnerable so she could take a slow revenge. Now Willow has got control of Drew. Basically, she has all legal say-so because he can’t say otherwise. This is very fitting since he’s been controlling Willow for more than a year.
Is Drew Irredeemable? Port Charles Reacts to the Crisis on General Hospital
Of course, she could put Drew into a facility and just leave him there long term, but I doubt it’s going to go that way. I think Willow is going to want to keep a close eye on him while also tormenting him for payback. The bottom line is Willow’s got to pretend she loves Drew and is taking care of him like a devoted wife.
She doesn’t want anybody to suspect that she’s the one who caused the stroke or to find out that Willow shot him. Even though a few people are sure, nobody knows for certain. Trina Robinson (Tabyana Ali) and Kai and Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn) know, and Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy) feels like she knows.
But with this new medical crisis, I think so far Kai is the only one who is suspecting her. We know everybody in Port Charles and, heck, most of the GH fans out there hate Drew and they think he’s totally irredeemable. You know you’re hated when you get shot and the whole town is on the list of suspects.
Bottom line, nobody felt bad for Drew when he was shot, and no one really feels bad now that he’s had a stroke. Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) said it was karma, and that’s what most people think. Drew’s been so awful to so many people for so long. There’s no sympathy around for him.
A History of Villainy: Why General Hospital Fans Want Drew Gone
He slept with Michael’s wife. He stole Willow from Michael. And he was prepared to take his kids from him. He traumatized Wiley Quartermaine Corinthos (Viron Weaver). He took out a restraining order to keep Scout Cain (Cosette Abinante) from her family after her mom died.
Also, he tried to screw over Curtis Ashford (Donnell Turner) on the Aurora CEO deal. It has been just one rotten thing after another. He conspired to try and get Laura Spencer Collins (Genie Francis) ejected as mayor and he’s been making dirty deals with Jenz Sidwell (Carlo Rota) and Ezra Boyle (Daniel Cosgrove).
Every day Drew was out there abusing his power as a congressman and just doing one bad thing after another. So, fans have been sick of his villainy for quite a while, and a lot of them were vocal in hoping that Cameron Mathison was going to leave General Hospital.
I know it seems like Drew can’t be redeemed, but I think GH is setting the stage for exactly that. What’s funny is that Willow’s turned into a villain, and that may be what helps Drew change his ways for real. Willow may take slow revenge on Drew, torturing him while he can’t speak or defend himself.

Willow Tait’s Dark Side: A ‘Whatever Happened to Baby Jane’ Twist
Have you guys ever seen that old movie, Whatever Happened to Baby Jane, where one sister was paralyzed and the other was taking care of her but was a monster? It was Bette Davis and Joan Crawford. If you haven’t seen it, it’s super good. The one sister would deny the sick sister medicine. She killed her pet. I think she might have even fed the pet to her. It was awful. She starved her. She was just so cruel.
I can see Willow doing stuff like that to Drew. She had no problem tormenting Sasha Gilmore (Sofia Mattsson) by doing stuff with Daisy to drive her out of Port Charles. So, yeah, I think Willow could do this. Drew has brought out a very dark side of Willow, and I think we’re going to see more of that. She can be just as bad and just as wicked as her twin, Nelle Benson (Chloe Lanier).
The Path to Redemption: Drew Cain Quartermaine’s Epiphany and Recovery on GH
I can see Willow getting Drew back to their house and confessing. “Yeah, I shot you.” And you know, then she can make him wish he had died. Willow may tell Drew exactly what she thinks of him and that she hates him.
Willow might even take a page out of Ava Jerome’s (Maura West) playbook. If you remember when Ryan Chamberlain (Jon Lindstrom) was faking locked-in syndrome, Ava dug her nails into Ryan to draw blood and see if he’d react.
He ignored the pain and he stayed frozen while faking it. I do think along the road somewhere the same thing will happen where Drew will recover but not let her know. There’s a whole lot that Willow could do to torment Drew emotionally and also physically.
GH Fans May Feel Sorry for Drew
At first, I think fans will think, “Okay, he deserves this.” But over time, if Willow keeps at it and breaks Drew down over and over again, things could change. If Willow tells him she hates him, doesn’t give him his pain medication, and lets him go hungry, we will see Drew with tears in his eyes, trapped and helpless.
I think that could soften up fans on him. Once Willow shows her true colors, I think Drew may have a major personal epiphany. Willow used to be sweet and kind, but now Drew has driven her to the point of being murderous and malevolent. So maybe Drew will realize, “Oh my gosh, this is what kind of monster I am. I’m so bad that I made Willow into a monster.”
I think Drew will crack, and I think it’s going to be Willow who breaks him. Along the way, as Drew is recovering, I think he is going to truly change his ways and want to make amends and redeem himself in everyone’s eyes. He will have endured more cruelty by the end of this than he put everyone else through if Willow gets her way.
It’s hard to imagine that there’s even a chance that Drew could be redeemed. I know it sounds crazy, but now that General Hospital has made Willow into such a cruel person, I can actually see the possibility of a redemption for Drew Cain Quartermaine—something I never thought was possible.
