Half of the title of this week’s column says it all: It was the worst possible time to throw a temporary Lucky recast at General Hospital fans. Cyrus’ end came shockingly fast after dragging this story out for months, and there was a major missed opportunity in his swan song. The soap also celebrated Valentine’s Day a week late with some romance and some major truth-telling.
Lucky? Eh, Not So Much
Fans have been waiting patiently for Elizabeth and Lucky to reconnect romantically. When they finally did, sadly, it was Guy Wilson, not Jonathan Jackson, who was smackin’ lips with Liz.
Not only that, it was not-Lucky who was there when Cyrus was taken down. Well, make that the other way around, given that Cyrus stuck him with digitalis.
But we knew Lucky wouldn’t be a goner with Jonathan Jackson slated to return to the role, which he did by Friday. Of course, all he had to do that day was lay around and let Portia and Isaiah save his life.
Cyrus Admits to Everything Except…
Cyrus sang like a canary to Liz about the murders, which, not so shockingly, amounted to him believing God had appointed him to release souls trapped between this and the next world and send them to heaven.
Sam and Dex sadly got in the way of his mission. We got a brief mention of Austin’s murder, but really, it was only to facilitate Anna & Co.
learning Cyrus was hiding out at a cabin the late doctor owned. The show could have at least explained Austin found out what Cyrus was planning to do, so that’s why the madman killed him.
Even Laura said on Friday that Cyrus seemed to start killing the moment he got out of prison. Unfortunately, with Cyrus dead, it feels like Austin’s murder will forever go unsolved.
Unhappy Valentine’s Day
It was good to see The Savoy again, and Chase surprising Brook Lynn with a singing performance was fun. However, I could have gone without seeing Willow and Drew this week.
Drew had some nerve, thinking he’d be welcomed at The Savoy. Good on Curtis for kicking him out! Thankfully, Willow also rejected Drew’s offer to move in with him. Yeah, that would have really helped her already tarnished reputation around town.
