Tristan Rogers has spent years as Robert Scorpio on General Hospital. However, fans are worried his time on the soap could be coming to an end after he recently shared news of a cancer diagnosis. That said, fans were also given a surprise around the time the news came out.
Tristan Rogers First Joined General Hospital As The Popular Robert Scorpio In 1980
Rogers started his career in soaps, first appearing in a variety of Australian soaps. However, one of his most popular roles would be in the United States, playing Robert Scorpio on General Hospital.
Rogers first joined the soap in 1980. Since then, his character proved popular to be repeatedly brought back, even after being killed off at one point.
As previously reported, news has come out that Rogers has received a cancer diagnosis. This was shared in a statement from publicist Anthony Turk, shared on the actor’s behalf.
According to Soap Opera Digest, the statement read, “Beloved Emmy-winning actor Tristan Rogers, best known for his role as Robert Scorpio on the daytime drama, General Hospital, is sharing with fans that he has been diagnosed with cancer. While he remains hopeful and is working closely with his medical team on a treatment plan, this is a challenging time for Tristan and his family.”
“As they face both the emotional and physical burdens that come with this diagnosis, the family kindly asks for privacy and understanding. They are deeply grateful for the outpouring of support and love from their friends and family.”
Fans Were Given A Surprise Around The Time Rogers’ Team Shared The News
At the time, fans were told that updates would be given as the family saw appropriate. That said, fans were also given an appearance from Rogers during the time the news broke out.
An episode featuring Rogers was released the same day his team shared the update. His character, Robert, could be seen greeting his daughter, Sasha, as she holds his granddaughter, Daisy. This was notable as the last time fans had seen Rogers as Scorpio was in a November 2024 episode. Rogers’ character left Port Charles at the time, leaving the soap with his ex-wife, Holly Sutton.
General Hospital generally films episodes around two months in advance, meaning Rogers filmed his appearance before the announcement. This could also mean that fans still have more to see from Scorpio during his most recent return to the soap. On the other hand, as some fans have pointed out, as Sasha could be leaving the soap herself, Rogers’ appearance could have been meant as a cameo.
At this time, however, it is unclear how Rogers’ health will impact his future appearances on the show. Per the statement, any updates concerning his time on the show will likely be released when his family deems appropriate.
