Elderly Pilot Makes Emergency Landing On Soccer Field Hitting Pedestrian

A plane recently made an emergency landing on a soccer field in Long Beach, California. Two people have since been hospitalized. The mayor of Long Beach has also released a statement over the incident.

The Long Beach Fire Department Shared That Two People Were Taken To A Local Hospital Following The Crash

On October 21, a small plane reportedly made an emergency landing on a soccer field at Heartwell Park in Long Beach. The incident took place around 4 PM local time.

Authorities noticed the plane had broken landing gear when they arrived at the scene. The Long Beach Fire Department also explained more about the situation in a post on Facebook, revealing that two people were injured during the incident.

Reportedly, a woman in her 40s and the plane’s “elderly” male pilot were taken to the hospital following the crash landing. In its coverage of the story, People described the woman as being “hit” by the small plane.

Mayor Rex Richardson Noted That There Was Still ‘Good News’ Concerning What Happened

According to the statement, both were taken to a local area hospital. They were described as being in a “moderate, but stable condition” at the time they were transported.

The statement continued, “The plane’s fuselage was intact. When the plane landed, it collided with a pedestrian in the park. Units assisted with removing the pilot, an elderly male, from the airplane and transported him via paramedics to a local area hospital.”

According to Long Beach Post, Mayor Rex Richardson discussed the situation in a City Council meeting on Tuesday evening. He shared, “The good news is it could have been a whole lot worse. And we are fortunate in that there have been no fatalities, no serious injuries. It was a glider [that] did an emergency landing, pretty rough landing on the field at Heartwell Park.”

Using flight data, the outlet also claimed that the small plane took off from Compton/Woodley Airport earlier in the morning, landing at French Valley Airport in Murrieta. The pilot took off around 3:40 PM local time, 20 minutes prior to the crash. The pilot reportedly told authorities that he was returning to Compton/Woodley Airport.

As the outlet showed, soccer practice continues after the emergency landing. Children could also be seen playing on a field with the plane in the background.

At this time, the investigation into the crash is still ongoing. The Long Beach Fire Department also shared that the Long Beach Police Department helped with securing the crash.
