A young child has lost his life after falling out of an apartment building’s window in New Jersey, sitting on the 20th floor. The boy, who was pronounced dead at the scene, was only two years old at the time of his death. Neighbors who knew the boy have also spoken out about the story.
The Toddler’s Body Was Found In Front Of The Building
On Saturday, November 15, officers were called to a high-rise apartment building around 7 AM local time. Authorities arrived at the Elizabeth Towers in Newark, New Jersey.
Newark and Essex County officials shared that a toddler was pronounced dead at the scene. The child, a boy, was only two years old at the time of their death.

Police believe that the child had fallen from an apartment window sitting a top the building’s 20th floor. According to investigators, his body was found right in front of the building. As noted by NBC New York, the child’s identity has not been revealed to the public. Neighbors, however, shared that the family is reportedly from Ghana. In a statement with NJ.com, speaking on the day of the tragedy, Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens II and Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda shared that the incident remains under investigation.
Many local residents have also opened up about the tragedy. One neighbor, identified as Paul Ankrah, shared in a statement, “This is really tough. The window is big, it’s really big.”
A Few Residents Shared Some Insight Into The Building, With Some Having Known The Child
Another neighbor, who asked not to be identified, described the child as “my little bro.” They shared, “I really love him. I’m really sad. My heart is broken. A couple of days (ago), I was just playing right here with him.”
Ankrah noted that Elizabeth Towers installed window guards in the apartment after telling management that he had a child. He continued, “My windows are safe. Before I moved in, I made sure they put up the barricade.”

However, the outlet shared that some windows appeared to be in disrepair. Some appeared to be covered in garbage bags. Others appeared to use cardboard or plywood to cover holes. Another window appeared to have a gaping hole.
The outlet shared that the skyscraper appeared to have been built in 1961. Video footage also shared crews covering up an open window on the building’s 20th floor.
Annie Richardson of Newark also told the outlet, “‘They don’t have enough help,’ I’ll say to get things going to fix problems.” The resident who wished to remain anonymous also shared, “This building is old and it needs to be renovated.”
